DESCRIPTION:General Physics Colloquium and Cooper Lecture\, Professor Yonit
Hochberg\, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem\n\nTitle: From Strongly Co
upled Theories to Quantum Sensors: New Directions for Light Dark Matter\n\
nHost: Yuval Grossman\n\nAbstract: Dark matter is one of the biggest mys
teries of modern-day physics\, yet its identity remains unknown. In this t
alk\, I will focus on light dark matter. From the theory side\, I will dis
cuss new theoretical developments that suggest light dark matter. From the
experimental side\, I will present new proposals for the direct detection
of light dark matter which hold much promise. These include the use of su
 perconducting nanowires\, two-dimensional targets such as graphene\, and h
eavy fermion materials. Considering dark matter interactions with these ta
rgets\, I will demonstrate the potential of the light dark matter direct d
 etection program in upcoming years.
