Dean Erdmann: And, Apollo

Thursday, October 28, 2021 at 5:15pm

Abby and Howard Milstein Auditorium

Dean Erdmann is a multi-disciplinary artist working with moving and still images, sculpture, and installation, often using pre-existing archives or creating archives. Their work often considers the politics of place, class, and the body. Their current and ongoing work, And Apollo, combines experimental documentary, video, and sculpture to think through intersections of the personal and the geopolitical.

Erdmann is a 2018–2020 Vera List Center for Art Politics Fellow, the recipient of the 2019 Urban Glass Fellowship, a 2013 California Community Foundation Fellow, and recipient of the Center for Cultural Innovation grant. They participated in SOMA's residency in Mexico City and were an artist in residence at the New Children's Museum in San Diego. Their work has been exhibited at ONE Archives, Mexicali Biennial, Hammer Museum, REDCAT, the Sheila Johnson Design Center, Torrance Art Museum, and Public Fiction, to name a few. Their public commission for the new Los Angeles Metro Crenshaw line opens this spring.
