Dealing with Garden Pests and Diseases

Tuesday July 16, 6 to 8pm

Teaching Garden with Ag Center as Rain Backup

Have you heard of IPM? It’s not Icky Pests Murdering vegetables, but rather Integrated Pest Management, and it’s a great way to think about dealing with the bugs or diseases that might come after your veggies this season.

We’ll do a garden walk rain or shine and see what problems we can uncover in our teaching garden (hopefully not too many!), and then we will talk about:

  • The basics of pests and disease—what attracts them and what makes some plants so much more delicious to them.

  • Tools to prevent issues from getting started in your garden.

  • Tools and tips to identify pests and diseases.

  • What problems tend to arise at each part of the season, and what this year’s current and upcoming issues are likely to be.

  • And what you can do about pests when you find and identify them!

  • There will be plenty of time to troubleshoot your pest and pathogen issues (so feel free to bring questions and pictures, but please don’t bring your pests!).
