Hamlet: The great Danish actress Asta Nielsen produced and starred in this silent version of Hamlet based on an 1881 book that argued Hamlet was a woman. The daring film will be shown with a new score using music of Bach’s sons, performed live by Dennis James (organ), Michael Tsalka (harpsichord and piano), and Marija Bosnar (mezzo soprano). Pre-film lecture at 7:15pm discusses the making of the score, commissioned by the National Gallery of Art.
