On Wednesday, October 15, from 4–6 p.m., Cornell’s New York Soil Health Team will host a Cover Crop Field Day outdoors at Leland Laboratory, 121 Tuber Drive, Ithaca. Attendees can visit over 60 summer and fall cover crop plots, featuring a range of warm- and cool-season individual crops and mixtures, along with comparisons of planting dates and demonstrations of new varieties.

Participants can learn from fellow farmers, researchers, breeders, and seed companies about choosing cover crops for specific situations, cover crop breeding updates, on-farm evaluations, and financial incentives to support adoption. After the field walk, stay for pizza, cider, and conversation.

Featured demonstrations and presentations:

  • Summer & Fall Cover Crop Species & Mixtures – Matt Ryan, Joseph Amsili, & Ginny Moore (Cornell); Rod Porter (King’s AgriSeeds)
  • Cover Crop Breeding Updates & On-Farm Evaluation Opportunities – Ginny Moore & Solveig Hanson (Cornell)
  • Programs to Encourage Cover Crop Adoption – SWCD staff

Free and open to all. No registration required. More information is available at NewYorkSoilHealth.org.
