DESCRIPTION:"Illuminating the Physical Processes of Galaxy Evolution with t
he Cosmic Microwave Background"\n\nAbstract: A new window into the growth
and evolution of large-scale structure has opened up with the recent obser
vations of the thermal and kinetic Sunyaev-Zel’dovich (SZ) effects. I wi
ll review recent observations of the SZ signals and highlight their expect
ed rapid growth over the next decade with upcoming cosmic microwave backgr
ound experiments\, like Simons Observatory and CMB-S4. I will present ongo
ing work to extract SZ signals in data from the Atacama Cosmology Telescop
e and how they can be used to constrain the important baryonic processes t
hat govern galaxy formation. I will conclude by showing the tension betwee
n these new SZ observations and state-of-the-art cosmological simulations
and discuss the prospects for future constraints.
