For his Artist-in-Residence project, Dennis Maher asked skilled laborers in the building trades to respond to his constantly changing house.
He invited eight tradespeople representing distinct professions, including plumbing, painting, electrical, masonry, window/door, roofing, flooring, and weatherization, to take a private tour of his residence and to talk with him about the making of his own house and about their work in the construction and renovation industries.
In response, each tradesperson constructed a small house model utilizing only the materials that each works with in their respective occupations.
Maher has incorporated the house models into a larger work of art which he calls House of Collective Repair. Please join the artist himself and the Curator of the exhibition, Nancy Spector, for a tour of this special exhibition at the world renowned Albright-Knox Art Gallery.
