http://philosophy.cornell.eduThe first Cornell–Syracuse Workshop is a one-day event scheduled for Fall 2025 on September 13. The Workshop will feature four graduate student presentations, two from Cornell and two from Syracuse. Each talk will last 30 minutes and will be followed by 10 minutes of commentaries from a faculty member in the relevant area of specialization and 5 minutes for reply. The commentators will also come from both Universities.
This event is designed to foster collaboration and philosophical engagement between the two departments, and we warmly invite submissions from graduate students enrolled in the 2025–2026 academic year.
Submission Guidelines:
• Papers must be between 3,000 and 5,000 words in length.
• Each student may submit one paper in any area of philosophy.
• By submitting, you agree to be available to referee one paper in your area of expertise (if needed).
• Please attach a cover letter that includes your name, the title of your paper, and your area(s) of expertise.
• Submission Deadline: August 1.
About the Workshop:
This Workshop is not just another academic event. It is designed to:
• Offer graduate students from both Cornell and Syracuse the opportunity to receive faculty feedback to improve their own work.
• Create a space for shared intellectual work to strengthen departmental ties through areas of common interest.
• Serve as the first in an annual series, alternating between Cornell and Syracuse.
We also invite expressions of interest from graduate students willing to carry on the torch in the next years by helping organize future editions of the Workshop.
This year, the Syracuse Department of Philosophy will host the inaugural session. We strongly encourage participation from all faculty and graduate students at both institutions.
