Cornell University

Cornell's Conversational English for International Students and Scholars program is a non-credit course for native speakers of languages other than English.

The program provides intensive English instruction and cultural orientation for those interested in working and studying in an academic environment in the U.S. or in using English professionally. The program will be offered online:

  • August 22-December 5, 2022

The program features project-based learning with a focus on the students’ academic interests and professional topics through

  • Synchronous instruction with the whole class
  • One-on-one appointments with the teacher
  • Group activities
  • Individual assignments/asynchronous instruction
  • Personalized feedback from the instructor

The class will meet synchronously from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. ET on Mondays. You should also expect to meet virtually with your team members outside of these times on at least two other occasions. Additional times for individual appointments with the instructor will be arranged. In total, you will receive a minimum of 45 hours of instruction over the course of the program.

EISS faculty members have graduate degrees relating to language instruction and are experienced in teaching English in an academic setting.
