DESCRIPTION:Title: Structural and magnetic characterization of 2D van der W
aals materials using STEM\nAbstract: Recently-discovered 2D magnetic mater
ials have added an exciting design parameter to van der Waals (vdW) hetero
structures. In the 2D extreme\, high-resolution tools are needed to connec
t macroscopic behaviors to their origins in the microscopic structure. I w
ill introduce Lorentz TEM and 4D-STEM electron diffraction as powerful tec
hniques for approaching long standing questions in 2D vdW magnetic systems
. Finally\, I will demonstrate the surprising consequences of imaging mono
layer magnets in an electron microscope.
