Title: Structural and magnetic characterization of 2D van der Waals materials using STEM
Abstract: Recently-discovered 2D magnetic materials have added an exciting design parameter to van der Waals (vdW) heterostructures. In the 2D extreme, high-resolution tools are needed to connect macroscopic behaviors to their origins in the microscopic structure. I will introduce Lorentz TEM and 4D-STEM electron diffraction as powerful techniques for approaching long standing questions in 2D vdW magnetic systems. Finally, I will demonstrate the surprising consequences of imaging monolayer magnets in an electron microscope.
