Woks for Washington (W4W) is a grassroots initiative based in the Washington, DC metro area focused on preserving Asian American culture, primarily through sharing Asian cuisine and culture. During the COVID-19 pandemic, we have seen increased racism and xenophobia, threatening the financial stability of numerous small restaurants, and perpetuating fears about the Asian American community. We have made it W4W's first mission to support these cultural institutions through purchased meals that are donated to local essential workers and shelters. We have a mission to raise $50,000 by the spring of 2021 to deliver 5,000 meals. As a board entirely composed of Asian-American Cornell alumni and family members, we have also made it part of our mission to share our story, experiences, and lessons learned as we navigate a non-profit initiative and our community-based service learning journey. We hope you join us in conversation about our successes, setbacks, and hopes for W4W.
