D.W. Griffith described screenwriting as "writing history with lightening." Filmmaker and writer Austin Bunn will explore the craft (and challenges) of screenwriting – how he teaches it to Cornell undergraduates. He will also screen his newest short film, "In The Hollow," a "hybrid documentary" that mixes narrative and nonfiction modes.

Austin Bunn is a screenwriter, fiction writer, teacher and performer. He wrote the script for "Kill Your Darlings" (Sony Pictures Classics) with the director John Krokidas, and the film premiered in the dramatic competition at Sundance Film Festival, won the International Days Prize at the Venice Film Festival, and was released in 2013. He is the author of the short story collection "The Brink" (HarperPerennial, 2015), and his work has appeared in The New York Times Magazine, The Atlantic, Best American Science and Nature Writing, WBEZ, Michigan Public Radio, and elsewhere. He is an Assistant Professor in the Performing and Media Arts Department at Cornell.
