This talk will discuss a recent report from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, which examined a range of questions and opinions about the economic, agronomic, health, safety, or other impacts of genetically engineered (GE) crops and food. More particularly, Dominique Brossard will analyze the communication processes around the release of the report and their potential impact on public opinion about GE crops in the United States
Dominique Brossard is professor and chair in the Department of Life Sciences Communication at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and an affiliate of the UW-Madison Robert & Jean Holtz Center for Science and Technology Studies, the UW-Madison Center for Global Studies and the Morgridge Institute for Research. Her teaching responsibilities include courses in strategic communication theory and research, with an emphasis on science and risk communication. Brossard’s research agenda focuses on the intersection between science, media and policy with the Science, Media and the Public (SCIMEP) research group, which she co-directs. She was a member of the NAS report on GE crops released in May 2016.
