 nAs chatbots become recognized as digital social participants\, they promp
 t an expansion of interpersonal communication studies. The intricate duali
 ty of chatbots\, merging human-like and machine traits\, opens new dialogu
 es and challenges. Dr. Bolin Cao's talk will explore this ever-evolving hu
 man-AI chatbot dynamic. Drawing upon recent research\, she will redefine c
 hatbots as not just tools but extensions of our own cognition\, enabling d
 eeper personal and intrapersonal connections. Specifically\, the talk exam
 ines how focusing on Chatbots’ 'technological otherness' opens the door 
 for intergroup communication concepts to enhance our understanding of huma
 n-AI interactions. This talk will explore multifaceted possibilities for f
 uture human-AI relations.\n\n \n\nBolin Cao is currently a Visiting Associ
 ate Professor at Cornell University. She also serves as an Associate Profe
 ssor at the School of Media and Communication of Shenzhen University\, whe
 re she is the Chair of the Internet and New Media Department. Her research
  expertise lies at the intersection of digital technologies and their impl
 ications for society and health communication. Positioned in Shenzhen\, of
 ten heralded as the Silicon Valley of China\, Bolin is in close proximity 
 to a multitude of prominent technology companies\, allowing for enriched i
 ndustry collaborations and interactions. Before Shenzhen\, she obtained he
 r Ph.D. from the City University of Hong Kong\, supported by the Hong Kong
  PhD Fellowship Scheme\, and has completed a postdoctoral fellowship in a 
 public health program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. 
 She has published over 50 articles in peer-reviewed journals such as Infor
 mation\, Communication & Society\, Health Communication\, and Computers in
  Human Behavior. She has edited a blue book on Internet civility and has l
 ed multiple research projects focusing on new technologies and health comm
 unication. Her current project is dedicated to exploring the role of AI ch
 atbots in enhancing mental health.
