Understanding Human-Chatbot Interaction: Intrapersonal, Interpersonal, and Intergroup Perspectives

Bolin Cao, Visiting Associate Professor, Cornell University

1pm in 160 Mann

As chatbots become recognized as digital social participants, they prompt an expansion of interpersonal communication studies. The intricate duality of chatbots, merging human-like and machine traits, opens new dialogues and challenges. Dr. Bolin Cao's talk will explore this ever-evolving human-AI chatbot dynamic. Drawing upon recent research, she will redefine chatbots as not just tools but extensions of our own cognition, enabling deeper personal and intrapersonal connections. Specifically, the talk examines how focusing on Chatbots’ 'technological otherness' opens the door for intergroup communication concepts to enhance our understanding of human-AI interactions. This talk will explore multifaceted possibilities for future human-AI relations.
