DESCRIPTION:BTI Monday Morning SPECIAL Seminar:\n\nThe Cornell NanoScale Sc
ience and Technology Facility (CNF) enables fabrication projects in many i
nterdisciplinary research areas to hundreds of users each year. Inspired b
y the work of several engineering faculty we recently proposed to NSF to p
romote breakthrough work in non-traditional fields\, including nano-agricu
lture. In this talk we will introduce the vast capabilities and open user
program that are available at CNF.\n\nIn addition\, we will describe work
by Cornell faculty members including Prof. Edwin Kan and Prof. Amit Lal\,
Dept. of Electrical and Computer Engineering\, and Prof. David Erickson\,
Sibley School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. These projects incl
ude research efforts in water sensing\, CMOS chemical/biological sensors\,
  genetic engineering\, bio-synthetic interfaces\, and wireless transmissio
n\, and smartphone diagnostic systems\, as they apply to plant biology res
earch. Some of these efforts have led to commercialization of products and
the formation of startup companies. It is our hope that these illustrati
ons will seed further discussions and collaborations involving engineers a
nd plant scientists. \n\nSnacks will be provided from 9:15 am.\n\n\nThese
seminars are part of the BTI Monday Morning Seminar Series which occurs bi
-weekly.\n\n\nVisit the BTI website at http://bti.cornell.edu/events/monda
