Spill, Bleed, Leakage: Sophocles' Polyphonic Electra

Sophocles’ Electra resounds with echoes of songs, cries, and shouts from other textual and dramatic worlds. The sounds of its own characters’ voices likewise recall and seep through one another as the drama unfolds. This paper listens to selected moments of phonic “spill” between inter- and intradramatic voices and considers their resonances within the text and performance of the play.
