April Theme: Creating an Inclusive STEM Teaching Environment
Session description: Successful STEM faculty of the future must find ways to engage and improve the experiences of first generation, low-income and/or minority students who are increasingly enrolling in institutions of higher education. This session examines the experiences of faculty and Kearns-CIRTL Graduate Fellows who work with students in semester long workshops to help improve academic performance in chemistry. Through this holistic practice, participants have increased their grades in chemistry, and graduate students have developed and will share their in-depth understanding of methods of teaching diverse students.
Presenters: Beth Olivares, Dean for Diversity Initiatives and Danielle Daniels, STEM Specialist
