Donald Sadoway, the John F. Elliott Professor of Materials Chemistry at MIT, will present a seminar entitled Innovation in Stationary Electric Storage: the Liquid Metal Battery. The focus of this talk will be the electricity storage of the future, and the challenges presented by the inherent intermittency present in renewable energy sources, as well as the solution: a liquid metal battery that offers colossal current capability and long life at a very low cost.
Sadoway is a world-renowned expert in the area of batteries and grid-level energy storage who was named one of Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in 2012. He has been featured on Comedy Central’s The Colbert Report and has delivered a TED Talk that has been viewed more than 1.7 million times. His research centers on technologies that make efficient use of energy and natural resources in an environmentally sound manner, focusing on electrochemistry in nonaqueous materials.
