Break and Learn: A Discussion Across Diverse Asian/Asian American Experiences
Thursday, May 4, 2023 8:45am to 10am
About this Event
When we hear “Asian and Asian American community,” who are we considering? This community is an incredibly broad and diverse population in terms of cultures, backgrounds, beliefs, and lived experiences. Yet there are often misassumptions, stereotypes, and myths about these individuals, which have perpetuated violence and a lack of equity and inclusion in our society and workplaces. May is Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month, which compels us to elevate the voices and experiences of our Asian/Asian American identifying staff, now and year-round. Take a break to learn more from the panel and to deeply consider what allies can do to ensure our Asian/Asian American identifying colleagues feel as though they belong.
A Panel Discussion with Perdita Das-Humphrey, Assistant Dean Hans Bethe House; Huey Hsiao, Director of the Asian and Asian American Center; and Nancy Martinsen, Interim Senior Associate Dean of Students.
Facilitated by Erin Sember-Chase, DEI Learning Consultant, Dept. of Inclusion & Belonging
