The Human Superorganism: How the Microbiome Is Revolutionizing the Pursuit of a Healthy Life

Thursday, September 22, 2016 at 4:00pm

Mann Library, Room 160

Until very recently, health experts thought that humans were better off without the microorganisms that live in our bodies and on our skins, and sought to eliminate these microbes that cohabitate with us. These microorganisms have been with us for centuries supporting our ancestors, and they comprise a majority of the cells in and on our bodies.

Join us for a Chats in the Stacks talk to hear about the lives that dwell within us and their influence on the ongoing global epidemic of noncommunicable diseases.

Rodney Dietert, award-winning researcher on the microbiome and professor of Immunotoxicology at Cornell’s School of Veterinary Medicine, presents a new paradigm in human biology in his new book “The Human Superorganism” (Dutton; July 12, 2016). Dietert identifies foods that best serve you--the superorganism, and explains protective measures against unsafe chemicals and drugs. He offers an empowering self-care guide and the blueprint for a revolution in public health.

Refreshments served and books available for purchase.

The book talk series at Mann Library is supported by the Mary A. Morrison Public Education Fund.
