DESCRIPTION:In “Earth: A Tenant’s Manual\,” distinguished geologist F
 rank H. T. Rhodes\, President Emeritus of Cornell University\, provides a 
 sweeping\, accessible\, and informed guide to the home we all share\, show
 ing us how we might best preserve the Earth’s livability for ourselves a
 nd future generations.  The book\, published in June by Cornell University
  Press\, is a comprehensive look at the structure of the planet\, an analy
 sis of how it is being depleted\, and a road map for sustainability.  \n\n
 Join us for a “Chat in the Stacks” with Dr. Rhodes who will discuss ho
 w new resources\, new priorities and policies\, and most of all\, new know
 ledge\, can lead us to a sustainable future.  Dr. Rhodes has published num
 erous works on geology and education including “The Creation of the Futu
 re: The Role of the American University” and “The Evolution of Life\, 
 and Language of the Earth." He holds the Bigsby Medal of the Geological So
 ciety\, the Ian Campbell Medal of the American Geological Institute\, and 
 the Clark-Kerr Medal of the University of California-Berkeley\, and more t
 han thirty other honorary degrees. \n\nFollowing the talk\, Dr. Rhodes wil
 l lead a question and answer session. Light refreshments will be available
  throughout the event and a book signing will follow. Books will be availa
 ble for purchase. The "Chats in the Stacks" book talk is funded by the Mar
 y A. Morrison Public Education Fund at Mann Library.
