DESCRIPTION:Our next guest speaker is Dr. Randy Longman from Weill Cornell 
 Medicine\, where he is an Assistant Professor of Medicine\, Division of Ga
 stroenterology and Hepatology.  He is also the Director of the Jill Robert
 s Center for Inflammatory Bowel Disease.\n\nMicrobial regulation of mucosa
 l and systemic immunity in inflammatory bowel disease\n\nBio: Dr. Randy Lo
 ngman received his undergraduate degree from Yale University where he grad
 uated summa cum laude. He was simultaneously awarded a Master of Science f
 or his biochemistry research. He received his medical doctorate from Corne
 ll Medical College and his Ph.D. in immunology from the Rockefeller Univer
 sity. He subsequently completed internship and residency training in Inter
 nal Medicine and fellowship training in Gastroenterology at the NewYork Pr
 esbyterian Hospital: Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center. He joined the J
 ill Roberts IBD Center at Weill Cornell in 2013 where he is an Assistant P
 rofessor of Medicine.\n\nClinically\, Dr. Longman focuses on the care of p
 atients with Ulcerative Colitis and Crohns' disease. His active research f
 ocuses on understanding the role for bacteria in inflammatory bowel diseas
 e. His work has been published in Nature\, Science\, Journal of Experiment
 al Medicine\, and Blood. For this work\, he has received numerous awards a
 s well as funding from both the American Gastroenterological Association a
 nd the National Institutes of Health. He has a particular interest in the 
 care of IBD patients with joint pains and serves as a co-investigator on r
 esearch studies to better understand the underlying cause.
