DESCRIPTION:Francis Lin from the University of Manitoba.\n\nHost: Mingming
Wu.\n\nTitle: Studying Cell Migration in Chemical and Electrical Guiding E
nvironments Using Microfluidic Devices.\n\nAbstract: Cell migration underl
ies many physiological processes ranging from immune response to wound hea
ling and to cancer invasion. Diverse environmental factors such as chemica
l gradients and electric fields can guide the migration and trafficking of
various cell types in tissues. Rapid development of microfluidics provide
s powerful quantitative test bed for cell migration analysis in controlled
cellular microenvironments. Toward this direction\, we focus on using mic
rofluidic devices to study chemotactic and electrotactic migration of diff
erent cell types. In this talk\, I will first provide relevant background
for this research field followed by an overview of my research program. Th
en I will focus on introducing our electrotaxis studies including 1) lymph
ocyte electrotaxis analysis in vitro and in vivo\; 2) experimental and mod
eling studies of immune cell migration in competing chemical gradient and
electric field\; 3) electrotaxis analysis of cancer cells and stem cells.\
