About this Event
Cornell University Mann Library, Cornell University, Ithaca, NY 14853, USA
#chatsinthestacksThe importance of biochar for soil health, climate change mitigation and adoption, and the circular economy, is increasingly being acknowledged, says Johannes Lehmann, Liberty Hyde Bailey Professor in the School of Integrative Plant Science, Soil and Crop Sciences Section, and professor in the Department of Global Development. In a live, hybrid Chats in the Stacks book talk, Lehmann will discuss Biochar for Environmental Management: Science, Technology and Implementation (3rd ed., Routledge, 2024) which is a systematic, comprehensive, and global examination of biochar edited by Lehmann and fellow leading figure in the field, Stephen Joseph, professor of Material Science and Engineering at the University of New South Wales. Lehmann will discuss the fundamental principles and frameworks of biochar science and application, as well as recent advances made in our understanding of biochar, including its applications outside of traditional soil-based uses. These include biochar-based materials for environmental remediation, building construction, and animal feed, and biochar's larger role in the circular economy, climate change mitigation, and sustainable development.
This talk is hosted by Mann Library. Light refreshments will be served.
