Rethinking U.S. Immigration Policy: The Path Forward

In 2013 Mr. Gonzalez served as the lead adviser/negotiator for the Gang of Eight’s Republican Senators (Jeff Flake of Arizona, Lyndsey Graham of South Carolina, John McCain of Arizona and Marco Rubio of Florida) seeking passage of Senate Bill 744 - Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act, the only comprehensive immigration reform legislation to obtain approval in the U.S. Senate since the passage of the Immigration Act of 1990.  Using his experience in the Senate as a backdrop, Mr. Gonzalez will discuss the path forward on immigration reform including why it is time to try a piecemeal as opposed to comprehensive approach to the issue.  He will also discuss a three part plan that addresses the key issues of border and interior security, the current undocumented population and legal immigration.
