Cornell Cooperative Extension of Seneca County is offering a Beginner Maple Production Workshop on Saturday, February 1, 2020 from 10 am to 12 Noon. The workshop will be held in the Edith B. Ford Memorial Library’s Community Room, located at 7169 Main St, Ovid, NY 14521
Mr. Stephen Childs, New York State Extension Specialist in the Department of Natural Resources at Cornell University; will be the presenter. The workshop will cover a variety of aspects of maple syrup production including: why make maple syrup, tree identification, tree health, tapping, sap collection and handling, boiling, energy efficiency, finishing and grading syrup, canning, marketing and regulations. The program will be targeted for beginning and small scale maple producers as well as homeowners looking to tap a few trees in the backyard or someone wanting to start small-scale commercial maple production.
The fee is $15.00 per farm or family. Registration is required. Walk-ins may be turned away if registration has closed or maximum participants has been reached; so register early!
