Beer Microbiology

The Cornell Brewing Extension Lab is offering a Beer Microbiology short course providing in depth learning materials and hands-on training for yeast management and microbiological quality control in a craft brewery. Students will have access to hours of online content, get hands-on practice with lab equipment, and leave with instructions and methods to apply to their respective breweries.

What’s Included:

  • Light Breakfast & Lunch
  • Hours of online learning material before arriving onsite: from yeast genetics and flavor metabolism, to detection and identification of beer spoilers.
  • Special guest lecture “Yeast Management for the Craft Brewer”  from Lance Shaner, Cofounder, Omega Yeast
  • Hands on experience using laboratory techniques and beer quality methods
  • Printed instructions and protocols for basic beer microbiological testing
