Becker Cafe with Jade Doskow

Wednesday, March 20, 2019 at 7:15pm

Carl Becker House, House Professor Neema's Apt G50
647 Stewart Ave, Ithaca, NY 14853, USA

New York-based artist and photographer Jade Doskow will be presenting ideas and images from several recent projects, including Lost Utopias, Architecture of Activism, and Red Hook. Throughout all of her work, a sense of timeless monumentality in juxtaposition to modern details highlights the surreality of the contemporary cityscape. Her best-known series Lost Utopias illustrates the unpredictable nature of city planning within international world’s fair sites, with a focus on such monuments as Philip Johnson’s New York State Pavilion in New York; Buckminster Fuller’s Geodesic Dome in Montréal, and the Atomium in Brussels, and the dystopian/ utopian clashing which occurs on these unusual sites.
