The Cornell Baroque Orchestra performs Handel’s pastoral cantata Aminta e Fillide, featuring sopranos Lucy Fitz Gibbon and Marie Marquis. First performed in July 1708 as part of celebrations organized by the Arcadian Academy with which Handel was associated, the pastoral libretto of Handel’s cantata concerns the love of the shepherd Aminta for the shepherdess Fillide. Handel furnished the bucolic play with ravishing arias, full of dramatic energy and pictorial imagination.
