Now on exhibit at the Boyce Thompson Institute (BTI) an exhibition featuring Ithaca artists Susan C. Larkin, Timothy Larkin, and Christina Coleman

This Renaissance of Light features over 40 works by the group, including Susan Larkin’s dramatic black-and-white photos of desiccated parts of plants.  In addition, several of Larkin’s photographs are accompanied by poems written by Timothy Larkin. Sculptures by Christina Coleman contain collections of plant remnants in tiny glass tubes arranged on cast off pieces of barn wood.

Larkin is fascinated by plants and says: “I want my camera to be an x-ray machine—capable of looking through the walls of a pod to the seeds inside. Or, if that can’t happen, I think about what I could do with back light. Can I show the outline of the plant with a light from behind and not lose what is in front? Or perhaps celebrate the color?  I am seeking the details people see every day but so often fail to notice.”
