The Archaeology of Uprootedness: A View from Tel Hadid
Monday, November 18, 2024 5pm to 6:30pm
About this Event
123 Central Ave., Ithaca, NY 14850, USA
Public lecture with Dr. Ido Koch from Tel Aviv University.
In my talk, I would like to share insights from and reflections on the archaeological study of uprootedness emerging from the ongoing work at Tel Hadid, central Israel. The talk will relate to two rural communities: the first is a community of deportees brought to the site by the Neo-Assyrian Empire in the late 8th century BCE, and the second is the community of Palestinians expelled from their home in July 1948. The study of both communities is entwined in the field and our mind, and it leads to reflections on the entanglement of the ancient past, the recent past, and the present in the archaeology of Israel.
