DESCRIPTION:The annual Animal Crackers program provides New York youth with
  fun\, hands-on\, science-oriented learning experiences on Animal Science 
 topics. This workshop is for 4-H members interested in learning more about
  their favorite livestock\, companion or pet animal species\; emphasis on 
 different species groupings and activities varies annually. Participants w
 ill learn about different aspects of animal care\, interact and exchange i
 nformation with faculty\, staff\, students\, professional producers\, indu
 stry experts\, and more\, utilizing the unique facilities of Cornell Unive
 rsity. Hands-on workshops are planned for each species group.\n\nWhen/Wher
 e: This Saturday workshop is held every May on the Cornell campus (Morriso
 n Hall – 507 Tower Rd\, Ithaca\, NY 14853). Check-in begins at 9am\n\nWh
 o: The program is geared to 4-H members involved in animal science project
 s. Youth are strongly encouraged to attend with their parents or chaperone
 s.  Suggested age range is 9-12\, however\, all youth 9 and up are welcome
 .\n\nWhy: This is a unique opportunity for youth to experience hands-on ac
 tivities in a university setting\, explore career options in animal scienc
 e\, and expand their knowledge through scientific inquiry.\n\nAccessibilit
 y: We are committed to providing universal access to all of our events. Pl

 stration deadline to request disability accommodations. Advance notice is 
 necessary to arrange for some accessibility needs.\n\nRegistration: Partic
 ipants must register with the local 4-H Youth Development program through 
 your county Cornell Cooperative Extension Office. Registration opens in Fe
 b/March and will close in April (approximately 1-2 weeks prior to the even
 t) or when programs are full\, whichever happens first. Counties will be b
 illed directly for the registration fee.\n\nCost: $15 per youth participan
 t. No fee for chaperones. Please note: transportation to and from the even
 t is at the participant’s own expense. Some CCE Associations charge addi
 tional fees to cover transportation & chaperone expenses.\n\nParticipants 
 must bring their own lunch and drinks. The closest place to purchase food 
 is a 5 minute drive from campus.\n\nDescription: Each year an opening pres
 entation kicks off the event with a welcoming statement or remarks related
  to the annual theme. Livestock production themes are usually offered in e
 ven years and Horse programs are rotated in odd years. A noon-time demonst
 ration and closing program is also typically featured.\n\nWorkshop present
 ers and topics are selected by a planning committee that looks at trends a
 nd current issues. Youth input on topics is also solicited through statewi
 de advisory committees and educator feedback.\n\nExamples of some of the f

 ogram\, ultrasound technology\, Herding dogs at work\, Disc dogs in action
 \, barrel racing\, driving\, poop soup\, and more!
