Join the Department of Performing & Media Arts for an evening with Heermans-McCalmon Distinguished Guest Artist Dominique Thorne '19, moderated by PMA Chair, Professor Samantha N. Sheppard.

The event will feature a screening of Ironheart Episode 3, "We in Danger, Girl," followed by a conversation with the acclaimed actress Dominique Thorne.

Dominique Thorne ‘19 is an acclaimed actress who has quickly become one of Hollywood’s most compelling young talents. A proud Cornellian, Dominique graduated in 2019 with a Bachelor of Science in Human Development from the College of Human Ecology, alongside a minor in Inequality Studies. During her time on campus, she was an active student leader, a member of the Mu Gamma chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and was inducted into the prestigious Sphinx Head Secret Senior Honors Society.

Dominique made her feature film debut in Barry Jenkins’ Academy Award-nominated If Beale Street Could Talk (2018), followed by her striking performance as Judy Harmon in the critically acclaimed Judas and the Black Messiah (2021).

She recently made history within the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the brilliant, teenage super-genius inventor Riri Williams (Ironheart). After her standout debut in the blockbuster Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022), she leads her own titular Marvel Television series, Ironheart (2025) on Disney+. Her phenomenal performance earned her a nomination for Outstanding Actress in a Television Movie or Limited Series at the 2026 NAACP Image Awards. Her recent work also includes starring in the genre-bending, Sundance-selected feature film Freaky Tales.

Before her time at Cornell, Dominique’s exceptional artistic promise was recognized nationally when she was named a 2015 U.S. Presidential Scholar in the Arts. Today, she seamlessly bridges the gap between rigorous social science inquiry and high-impact, transformative storytelling on global screens.
