Title: Spatial metagenomics, culturomics, and engineering of the gut microbiom
Speaker Bio: Harris Wang is a Professor and the Interim Chair of the Department of Systems Biology at Columbia University and is also jointly appointed in the Department of Pathology and Cell Biology and the Department of Biomedical Engineering. Dr. Wang received his B.S. degrees in Mathematics and Physics from MIT and his Ph.D. in Biophysics from Harvard University. His research group develops enabling synthetic biology technologies to characterize and engineer microbiomes to monitor and improve human health and the environment. He is also an Investigator of the Chan-Zuckerberg Biohub New York and the recipient of numerous accolades, including the Vilcek Prize for Creative Promise in Biomedical Science, the National Science Foundation CAREER Award, Sloan Research Fellowship, and the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers. Dr. Wang has co-founded several startups and serves on the scientific advisory boards of various companies in the areas of CRISPR, microbiome, biosecurity, and gene therapy.
