DESCRIPTION:Real-time Twisting On a Chip\n\nDr. Haoning Tang\nHarvard Quant
 um Initiative\nPostdoctoral Fellow\n\nOptical nanostructures and two-dimens
ional materials (2DM) have optical properties that are widely tunable via s
everal approaches\, such as heating\, electrostatic gating\, and interfacia
l engineering such as twisting. Being able to tailor the interfacial proper
ties in a similar real-time manner represents the next leap in our ability
to modulate the underlying physics and build exotic photonics devices. We d
emonstrate the first on-chip platform designed for optical nanostructures a
nd 2D materials with in situ tunable interfacial properties\, utilizing a m
icroelectromechanical system (MEMS). Each of these compact\, cost-effective
\, and versatile devices is a standalone micromachine that allows voltage-c
ontrolled approaching\, twisting\, and pressurizing of two sheets of materi
als with high accuracy.\n\nBio: Haoning Tang is the Harvard Quantum Initiat
ive Postdoctoral Fellow at John A. Paulson School of Engineering Applied Sc
ience at Harvard University. She obtained bachelor's degree at The Hong Kon
g University of Science and Technology in\, and Ph.D. at Harvard. Her prima
ry research interest is in the optical properties of metamaterials and low-
dimensional materials\, and the engineering of these properties through adv
anced nanotechnologies including micro-electricalmechanical systems (MEMS).
