The word "prediction" used to be rare in plant breeding, with it being used initially in the 1930s in the context of predicting the performance of double-cross hybrids from the performance of single crosses. But within the last decade or so, prediction has become part and parcel of plant improvement. In this presentation, Professor Bernardo will share perspectives on prediction approaches in plant breeding, particularly with how predictions could be expanded in breeding programs in the near future.
