2021 One Health Symposium

Saturday, January 30, 2021 at 8:15am to 6:15pm

Virtual Event

Join us for the virtual 2021 One Health Symposium, hosted by the Veterinary One Health Association at Cornell's College of Veterinary Medicine. Our virtual event brings together students and professionals in medicine, veterinary medicine, public health, environmental science, and a variety of other disciplines for a day of lectures and talks pertaining to the One Health philosophy. This philosophy is one that emphasizes the interdependence of human, animal, and environmental health. It is also one that calls for collaboration across health-related professions to address issues such antimicrobial resistance, zoonotic disease emergence, food insecurity, and environmental toxicology. COVID-19 has only reminded us that many of the the most pressing global health challenges of the new decade require interdisciplinary solutions.

The Symposium will feature four lectures:

  • "Species-spanning Medicine for 21st Century Doctors"  Dr. BN Horowitz, MD, Cardiologist at UCLA and Harvard
  • "One Toxicology"  Dr. Val Beasley, DVM PhD, Professor Emeritus of Veterinary, Wildlife, and Ecological Toxicology, University of Illinois
  • "Antimicrobial Resistance"  Dr. Lance Price, MS PhD, Professor, George Washington University
  • "Transboundary and emerging diseases of animals, a threat to global food security,"  Dr. Alfonso Torres, MS DVM PhD, Professor Emeritus, Cornell University

In addition, registrants will attend one of three breakout workshops:

  • Systems Thinking Dr. Laura Cabrera, MPA PhD, Institute for Policy Affairs at Cornell University
  • Public Health Communications Dr. Amelia Greiner Safi, MS PhD, Cornell University Master of Public Health Program
  • Health Policy Dr. Chris Schaffer, PhD, Meinig School of Biomedical Engineering, Cornell University
