Opioid Prevention Ellen Olson, Child Care Council Credentialed Trainer

The Opioid Epidemic is affecting many families in our community. It’s important that we understand the causes and the effects of this epidemic as well as what resources are available in our community. We will look at the role Adverse Childhood Experiences play in this crisis and the importance of supporting the development of social emotional skills as well as the power of unconditional love and acceptance.

A Good Picture Book is Worth a Thousand Words Tammy Ablang Child Care Council Credentialed Trainer

Do we really have to rely on words to tell a story? Let’s tell stories through pictures! Wordless books can be used to develop important literacy skills while learning about sequencing, identification of details, cause and effect, relationships, and making inferences. Join us to learn more about wordless picture books and why we might want to consider adding them to our libraries.

FULL - Developing an Active STEM Learning Environment Timothy Fowler, Professional Development Director, NYS Network for Youth Success

Learn what separates a random act of STEM from real STEM learning. In this hands-on workshop, participants will make and compare substances while experiencing how STEM learning can best happen in an informal environment.

Nutrition & Wellness in Child Care Lindsey Behr, Child Care Council, CCNP, CMP

How do we as child care providers support the growing bodies and minds of little ones when we have picky eaters? We will discuss promising practices for introducing new foods to the children in your care. Helping hands are closer than you think! We will explore positive health behaviors to support the physical and nutritional well-being of each child and how you can create safe, nutritious, and brain building feeding and mealtime experiences.

Bringing Mindfulness & Yoga to Your Teaching Practice Lisa Gambacorta, Vocational Teacher of Early Childhood Education (retired)

Being an early childhood educator is very rewarding, but the challenges of teaching can often lead to stress due to immense physical and emotional demands. You will learn how to incorporate a mindfulness practice into your daily routine, and discover how to become less stressed and more joyful. Participants will leave feeling calm, and with a renewed sense of well being. Wear comfortable clothing as we will be engaging in mindfulness exercises and gentle stretching.

FULL - Promoting Social-Emotional Learning in Afterschool Timothy Fowler, Professional Development Director, NYS Network for Youth Success

Experience elements of a program that both welcome children while teaching them skills for future success. Participants will explore approaches that create a positive environment for all, that encourages social and emotional skill development.

About this conference :

- Whole Pi (General Full Day) Online Registration ends on 3/6. Online registration will also end at this time.

- Mini Pi (Student Registration Full Day ) will require a photocopy of the student's current ID valid for Spring 2020 to be emailed to caj88@cornell.edu

- Full Day Walk In registration is $100.

- Full-day registration will include breakfast and lunch. EIP and CSEA Funding can be used to pay for this conference, so long as funding is available. Registration fees are non-refundable and will be taken on a first-paid first-served basis. The Child Care Council will contact anyone whose registration may be affected by capacity being reached.
