The New York Youth Institute is a life-changing experience at Cornell University where high school students engage with local leaders and experts on critical global challenges, participate in hands-on activities, and explore exciting ways to make a difference in New York and around the world.

Friday, June 29 –  401 Warren Hall

8:30am             Registration and Interactive stations for students and teachers

9:00 am            Welcome - Francine Jasper, Associate Director 

 “The World Needs You” Dr. Adesina, World Food Prize Laureaute’s message to youth  video                                    

9:15am               CALS Executive Dean, Prof. Max Pfeffer

10:30                    Dr. Ronnie Coffman, Director of International Programs, CALS  and former student of Dr. Norman Borlaug

11:30am                Lunch – 401 Warren

12:00 – 1:00am   Richard Ball, Commissioner for New York State Agriculture and Markets, Keynote speaker for Lunch 

1:00 – 1:45 pm       Scavenger hunt on CALS campus

2- 3:00pm              Students visit various sites on campus to learn about exciting research/study

3:30 – 5:00pm      The Hunger Challenge activity (design thinking) Ie. creating healthy snack, marketing plan for golden rice, water saving technology, homeless and food waste, shelter for keeping chickens in urban settings

5:30 – 7:30pm      DInner keynote: Lazarus Lynch, “Son of a Southern Chef,” World Food Prize NY Youth Institute alumnus, multimedia star Stocking Hall 

Saturday, June 30 –  401 Warren Hall

8:30am   Welcome - CALS Dean Kathryn Boor

9:15am                     Group photo

9:30am                  Student Panel with former World Food Prize Delegates 

10 – 11:30am           High School Student presentations in 5 rooms 

Lunch                     Libby Crimmings, Director, National Education Outreach, World Food Prize

1:30pm                     Presentation of Certificates 

3:00pm                   Program ends
