World Food Prize NY Youth Institute Featuring Commissioner Ball

NY State Commissioner of Agriculture and Markets, Richard Ball will be the keynote lunch speaker at NY Youth Institute, Friday, June 29th in Mann 102.

Commissioner Ball will discuss topic central to NY Agriculture in the context of global hunger and food insecurity.

The New York Youth Institute is a life-changing experience at Cornell University where high school students engage with local leaders and experts on critical global challenges, participate in hands-on activities, and explore exciting ways to make a difference in New York and around the world.

9:45                    Scavenger Hunt on CALS campus (students only)

11:00                   Dr. Ronnie Coffman, Director of International Programs, CALS  and former student of Dr. Norman Borlaug

12:00 pm            Richard Ball, Commissioner for New York State Agriculture and Markets, Keynote speaker for Lunch 

1:30-3:30           Students visit various sites on campus to learn about exciting research/study

1:30 – 2:00        Tata-Cornell Institute Exhibit ”Portraits of Progress: Confronting Indian Malnutrition through Field-based Research”  with Jenny Christina Leijonhufvud, Mann Library 2ndfloor Gallery 

1:30 – 2:00       “What is GMO?” Tour of the Plant Transformation Facility, B22 Weill Hall,

4:00- 5:30        Student presentations, 148 Conference Center, Stocking Hall (Food Science)

6:00 – 7:30       Kelsey Tyrell, Director, Global Youth Institute, World Food Prize Presentation of Certificates
