Nam June Paik's Etude and the Indeterminate Origins of Digital Media Art

Etude 1 is one of three works that Nam June Paik created at Bell Labs when, in 1960s, Bell briefly opened the labs to a few artists, inviting them to use the computer facilities. Gregory Zinman has found the piece from the Archive in Smithonian American Art Museum. In the talk, he will give an insight  how this originally computer generated opera indicates the moment of confluence of art and engineering to become the genesis of the contemporary media-scape.
