Cornell Cooperative Extension of Madison County is pleased to offer the 4-H Tractor Safety and Certification Course. This course is open to 14 and 15 year olds interested in working on a farm. The program will take place on Monday evenings from 6-9pm starting February 26 until April 2. This seven session course will cover many aspects of farm safety with an emphasis on safety operating farm equipment and safety around animals.
To successfully complete the program, participants must attend all sessions and pass both a written exam and a practical driving test. Participants will have the opportunity to practice driving tractors and skidsteers on Saturday, March 10 from 10 a.m. to noon and Saturday March 24 from 10 a.m. to noon. These driving sessions are highly encouraged to ensure that everyone is comfortable operating equipment before the mandatory driving test. Upon successful completion of the test, participants will receive a certificate from the Department of Labor. Employers are required by law to ask for this certificate before hiring a 14 or 15 year old to work on their farm.

Session 4: March 19 6-9 p.m. at White's Farm Supply
Session 5: March 26 6-9 p.m. at Kelsey's Monanfran Farm
Session 6: March 31 8:30 -12 at Madison Schools
Session 7: April 2 6-9 p.m. at Morrisville State College Dairy Barn
