The Splash Down
Thursday, October 3, 2013 at 1:00pm
to 11:00pm
Cornell University
P.O. Box 88
What is it? Ithaca's ONLY kiteboarding competition is a collaboration with the Cornell Kiteboarding Club, Cornell Dining, Sustainable Tompkins, and Pew Environment. The competitors are raising money for Sustainable Tompkins and need sponsorship in order to ride. One rider is going by the name "The Big Tuna" and will be decked-out in a tuna costume on campus all throughout September. He is trying to take as many pictures with people as possible to help support Pew Environment's bluefin tuna campaign. The pictures will be sent to Pew to make into a photo mosaic that will be delivered to NOAA to help protect the bluefins. If "The Big Tuna" ends up submitting more pictures than anyone else in the U.S. he will be able to hand-deliver the mosaic to NOAA in Washington D.C.!
Cornell Dining, too? To show support, for SEPTEMBER ONLY, Cornell Dining is make MSC-certified sustainable tuna sandwiches.
How long does it last? Throughout the month of September ONLY!
What can I do to help? Sponsor a rider!
Spread the word (share the links)!
Take a picture with The Big Tuna!
Buy a sandwich (be sure to
tell Dining why you're buying it)!
Pictures taken with "The Big Tuna" will be sent to Pew Environment Group to contribute to the construction of their Bluefin Tuna Photo Mosaic. http://www.pewenvironment.org/news-room/other-resources/every-picture-counts-bring-the-waste-of-atlantic-bluefin-tuna-into-focus-85899487997
