The Roots of Hip Hop with Afrika Bambaataa

Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at 5:00pm to 6:00pm

Biotechnology Building, G10
Central Campus

Hip Hop founding father and Electro-Funk pioneer, DJ Afrika Bambaataa, will make his first public appearance at Cornell University since his appointment to a three-year term as a visiting Cornell scholar. Join us for a public talk on Hip Hop history with Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominee Bambaataa, Crazy Legs, Joe Conzo, and DJ Rich Medina of the world-famous Rock Steady Crew.

As a visiting scholar, Bambaataa will visit Cornell’s campus several days each year to talk to classes, meet with community groups, and perform the music he helped create and expand. Bambaataa’s appointment has broad cross-disciplinary support from across Cornell, including Cornell University Library, the Department of Music, the Africana Studies and Research Center, and the Department of English.

Cornell University Library is home to the largest national archive on Hip Hop culture, documenting its birth and growth by preserving thousands of recordings, flyers, photographs and other artifacts.

After the panel discussion, The Haunt will host a live show with Bambaataa and DJ Rich Medina. Doors open at 7 p.m.; show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets for the show available @
