The Last Vultures in Southeast Asia

Thursday, April 24, 2014 at 5:30pm to 6:30pm

College of Veterinary Medicine, LH2

Yula Kapetanakos will be delivering a talk entitled: "The Last Vultures in Southeast Asia" and she will be discussing how threats such as toxins, habitat loss, reduced food availability and direct persecution have reduced Asian Gyps vulture populations by 99% in the past 20 years--the most precipitous decline of any raptor in modern history. Her lab’s research focuses on how population fragmentation has impacted the genetics of these extremely endangered raptors in southeast Asia, where they are restricted now to only to small parts of Cambodia and Myanmar.
