Starry Mountain Trio Vocal Harmony Workshop

Saturday, April 12, 2014 at 3:30pm to 5:00pm

Willard Straight Hall, 411 (Music Room)
Central Campus

World Harmony Singing: Songs from South Africa, Georgia, and North America. The Starry Mountain Trio will teach three- and four-part-harmony songs from North America, the Republic of Georgia, and South Africa, delving into the particularities of singing styles from each tradition, tuning, and historical, cultural, and social context of the songs. All musical abilities and backgrounds are welcome, and songs will be taught by ear, even when sheet music is provided. Participants are welcome to bring audio recorders to the workshop. Workshop goers can expect to learn new songs (and dances; Suzannah is a member of the Green Grass Cloggers), and learn about the singing traditions from which the songs come. Suzannah Park was featured as a leader of the January 2014 Traditional Youth Song weekend in Massachusetts, where she won praise for her joyous, intuitive style and ability to inspire singers of all ages.

Workshop only: $15; workshop plus concert discount: $25 non-students, $20 students. RSVP to ian.mcgullam@gmail.com. Concert tickets available for purchase at workshop.
