"Sin Nombre" Film of the Latin American Film Series, OCT 17, G01 Stimson Hall, 4:30 PM, pizza served

Thursday, October 17, 2019 at 4:30pm to 6:30pm

Stimson Hall, G01
204 East Ave., Ithaca, NY 14853, USA

Cary Joji Fukunaga’s Sin Nombre (2009) follows Sayra, a teenage girl, as she leaves Honduras for the United States for a better life, during which journey she meets two other teenagers, Casper and Sayra in Tapachula, Mexico. This film shows how their journeys, and journeys at large, to the North from Central America have at root cause gang violence and threats of extortion. As these three friends travel together, the panoramas of Honduras, Guatemala, and Mexico are captured as they relate to on-going migration through Cary Fukunuga’s fieldwork on the subject.
