WEDNESDAYS- Starts June 19
Dates: 6.19, 6.26, 7.3, 7.10, 7.17

Beginner 2 & 3 5:15-6:25pm

Description
Beginner 1 covers the fundamentals of timing, rhythm, body movement, lead-follow connection, basic step patterns and partner combinations. Students learn principles of Latin dance and musicality and how to incorporate this into Salsa dancing. Beginner 2 partner repertoire incorporates the components of Beginner 1 - right turns, cross-body leads, veils, hand changes, basic steps in closed and open position -  and adds to it: left turns, open-break turns, cross-body lead variation, and styling. Social dance practice with availability of one-on-one assistance is held at the end of each class. Music folders provided.

Format
Class begins with a body movement warm-up. We teach Salsa step variations (aka "shines") and movement patterns in rotating lines. In the second half of class we apply these step patterns and turns in partner format, where combinations are formed through the acquisition of lead-follow technique. Class ends with a 15 minute practice session, where repetition of moves and individual assistance from instructors help
students solidify skills.

Salsa Musicality
In Salsa, timing, rhythm and dance flow is cued to the dancer by layered Afro-percussion based orchestral style music. Lead and follow between partners is created through the frame, points of connection, and tension. The flavor of Salsa derives from a core of Afro-Cuban, Afro-Caribbean, Afro-Latin and Iberian music and dance forms, enhanced by contributions from cultural phenomena around the world, including jazz, ballroom and various styles of pop music. Salsa is ecumenical, inspiring, dynamic and accessible. Beginner Salsa will help you acquire the skills and sensibility necessary to survive on the dance floor, advance to higher levels, and form a basis for your own individual dance style.

After Party!
Every Wednesday Salsa socials are held at Agava Restaurant. All students of these classes enjoy a 10% dinner discount on Salsa nights (orders need to placed by 10pm). See Salsa Fiesta Agava for event details. SPREAD THE WORD! Join Event on Facebook and invite your friends.
