The History of Engineers and Antibiotics: An Odd Combination
All drugs are made up of molecules, but turning a perfectly designed molecule into an effective medicine is no easy feat. With the rise of virulent pathogens and antibiotic resistance, chemists and biologists are working hand-in-hand with engineers to develop and deliver the medicines of the future. In this talk, I will discuss the history of antibiotics and the role of chemical engineers, new therapeutic modalities, and the scientific challenges that lie ahead.
